In this part we
I will cover the final make-up for the eyes. These are the elements of
eye-makeup that most people find the hardest to get
right.
The first thing
you need to apply is your mascara. This comes in a big range of styles ranging
from dependable Avon cosmetics -which I use for everyday use - through to
L'Oreal mascara which actually lengthens the eyelashes but costs a small
fortune. It doesn't actually lengthen them its just so thick is tends to create
strands that look like long lashes.
APPLICATION The easiest way to apply your mascara is to hold the brush
horizontally close you your eye and just blink onto the brush. Take care it
just gets your lashes because this stuff stings if it gets in your
eyes. You need to allow it a minute
or so to dry and DON'T blink more than you have to because it can smudge below
your eye. You shouldn't need more than one application but if you want to add a
second for a really dark look make sure the first lot is dry otherwise it will
glue your lashes together and give you a 'punk'
look.
Apply the
Mascara ONLY to the top lashes. Applying it to the bottom lashes gives a
somewhat dated look.
TIP: When
applying mascara to avoid poking yourself in the eye with the 'wand' ALWAYS
look in the mirror to judge where the wand is in relation to your eye. DONT try
and look at the wand directly. You eye cant focus that close and its a sure way
to end up with a poke in the eye from the wan and your make-up
smudged.
Mascara comes
in a range of colors but overall black is best for most
people.

Now we are
going to add eye liner to the eyes. This comes in either liquid form or a
pencil or Rimmel do sticks that are like a very thin lipstick. Eyelining is
easily the area where most people have trouble (including me) and most real
girls have trouble with it too.
For beginner I
would suggest a pencil as its easiest to work with. If you use liquid get
yourself a decent fine brush for applying it as the brushes most manufacturers
provide are worse than useless.
The best liquid
I have come across is Maybeline which comes with something resembling a felt
pen nib - its makes application very easy but is also quite
expensive.
APPLICATION Keep the eye lightly closed and work a line across your top
eyelid as close as possible to your eyelashes. The line should extend from the
edge of the eye to the last place on the lid where you have lashes. The line
should be slightly thicker at the outer edge of the
eye.
For the bottom
of the eye you need to run the pencil from the outer edge of the eye to a
position approximately 3/4 along the bottom lid and again the line should be
slightly thicker at the outer edge of the
eye.
Finally take
one of your eye brushes and very, very gently brush over the pencil or liquid
eyeliner (for liquid you will have to wait for it to dry) to soften dark lines
edges - this should create a slightly hazy look and soften the eyes a bit. Take
care when brushing not to let the eyeliner build up at the edge of the eye as
it will make it look like you have a bruise or black eye
developing.
As with the
eyeshadow check you eyes to make sure they are
even.
EYEBROWS You don't need thin arching eyebrows - though it certainly
helps - seriously though to define your eyebrows take the eyebrow pencil, hold
it vertically up and in your eyebrow hairs and gently rub it backwards and
forwards through you eyebrows. You are not painting the eyebrows on you just
want the hairs to be colored by the pencil. Finally using either an eyebrow
brush or the brush supplied as part of the pencil gently brush your eyebrows
straight back and up.
