The studio is massive in size and very well organised for sets etc. though the factory itself is very dilapidated but has a wonderful old Victorian feel to most of it. For those of you unused to professional studios by the way don't be put off by the bareness - most studios are largely empty space. Craig has a whole range of top end photographic equipment and he and I chatted for a bit over the relative merits of cameras and suchlike over a nice cup of tea before Sarah the make-over lady arrived. Now I thought I had a big cosmetics kit until I saw hers. I don't think outside of a cosmetics shop I have ever seen so much lipstick, powder and paint. Sarah gave me a big make-over, mixing up a foundation on the spot to suit me and also giving me a few hints and tips which I was glad to get - unlike a lot of make-over artists Sarah was glad to advise and teach a little about how to get the best out of each cosmetic and we spent a happy 30 minutes chatting while she made me over. Actually having someone else do your makeup is great - its a real luxury to let a professional get to grips with your face and not have to worry about anything. Now despite the fact I had been travelling 5 hours to get to Manchester so was a bit tired Sarah managed to make me look absolutely radiant and like all really great makeup people made it look very easy and also the makeup was very subtly applied as you can see in the pics which makes for a really natural look. Now it was time to get wigged and dressed for my first ever shoot with someone else holding the black box. Ooo-errr !
After an hour or so of Craig snapping away it was time to move over and let the other girls get their pictures taken. Gabrielle and Alison are local girls and while Alison was making up Gabrielle and I had a good old natter about the local scene and such. After Gabrielles shoot it was time to wind down and for me to get off and see Caroline at Cathouse as part of my day out up North (see the Cathouse article).
Now having done a session with Craig would I recommend other girls having professional make-overs and pics ?.....you bet ! Its much easier to look good when your not having to worry about the technical side or how you look to the camera and a pro-makeup artists will make you look so much better unless you are a mega expert. My make-up skills are better than average but compared to someone like Sarah I am almost a rank beginner. There's nothing wrong in accepting that a pro can do it better - after all you wouldn't want to do your own brain surgery would you ?
Just take a look at the pics here and ask yourself if to look that good even for just a few hours PLUS getting to have the pics to keep so you can see what you can look like isn't worth the cost of a session. You can contact Craig at CP Media services by clicking on the banner below. |
